Veterinary practice obtains prestigious accreditation from animal hospital after overhaul

A veterinary practice in Worcester celebrates becoming one of the city’s two full-fledged veterinary hospitals.

Severn Vets, who has practices in St John’s and Warndon, has been granted veterinary hospital status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

This, according to the RCVS website, makes him one of only two in town to have this status, the other being Brentknoll Vets.

The accreditation follows a £ 650,000 overhaul to improve its facilities.

The practice, which was founded in 1999 by veterinarians Caroline and Jock Queen, has a team of 22 veterinarians, nurses, receptionists and office team members at Berkeley House, providing veterinary care to cats, dogs and other little ones. animals.

The establishment of 24-hour on-site care and separate isolation facilities has enabled veterinarians in Severn to move from general practice to veterinary hospital status through the RCVS accreditation program.

According to the RCVS, many important aspects of animal care can only be guaranteed in a veterinary hospital. Some of the criteria that must be met are:

• Veterinary hospitals must have a dedicated aseptic operating room for performing pet operations.

• Veterinary hospitals have an obligation to ensure that their veterinarians and other team members are well qualified and up to date.

• The statute of the veterinary hospital guarantees that radiography, ultrasound, ECG and laboratory facilities will be available on site.

• Veterinary hospitals have separate rooms dedicated to cats and dogs with sufficient and comfortable kennels as well as intensive care and isolation facilities.

Hospital Director and Chief Veterinary Nurse Jane Harding said: “We are extremely proud to have been granted hospital status as it reflects the consistently high standards of patient care that our team provides in all of our operations. cabinets.

“We provide a high standard of pet care and obtaining hospital status recognizes this and is a great reward for the hardworking and dedicated team we have. ”

The 2019 renovation included a rehabilitation center offering physiotherapy and alternative therapy treatments for pets, along with a pet hydrotherapy pool and underwater treadmill.

In addition to its main hospital at Berkeley Way in the villages of Warndon, Severn Vets also has practices in St John’s, Henley-in-Arden and Alcester.
