1 purse of $25,000, 1 mile, ages 3+ who have never won two races, claiming $10,000

CALL OF HONOR** was well overrun and may not have liked a synthetic surface at Turfway, but it was a first clear winner at its previous one at Keeneland and shows two strong local breezes. GRAVES MILL ROAD hasn’t raced since August, but he has three consecutive cash finishes, while earning near-par Beyer numbers for the level. CHASE TRACKER disappointed with odds of 7-2 on its local debut, but suffered a significant drop in price and drew a favorable inside post.

MONTGOMERY PARK** ran second all around the track when it caught a rush winner on its seasonal debut, and it may have needed the run and may be on a clear lead. HARD STREET was at a pace on the track when it was too hard, but she goes into a conditioned claiming race and goes from an apprentice to a winning companion. NISI PRIUS rallied in fourth place behind the top selection, although compromised by a slightly troubled start in its first race after a long layoff, and the beaten favorite at the end of the race has a license to bounce back and make amends.

SHI O’SHI** has been working smart since beating her starting allocation rivals at Keeneland, and she’s unbeaten in two races on a wet track if that’s the case. LICHITA contested a fast pace in a deceptive fourth place, and she surrenders a $30,000 claimant. MONGOLIAN LOTUS was narrowly beaten as the favorite after time in a $10,000 claimer, and she won seven of her 14 races at the main track.

AMERICAN XPERIMENT**** followed a dominating first career win at Saratoga with a GI spot at Del Mar, and the quick and talented colt returns fresh and on Lasix for the first time. BUCKINGHAM PRINCE has worked smart since taking on an early allocations field at Churchill, and his versatility provides options. MAGNOLIA MIDNIGHT rallied in third place from a quick run last month at Oaklawn, and he’s an up-and-coming rider who needs to learn how to break better to compete at a higher level.

DISTORTED SECRETS* is an unraced filly with encouraging training dating back to June, and her trainer-rider team is winning races at a rate of 38%. ARGUMENTAL had poor behavior at the gate and a slow start that compromised his best on his sixth-place debut at Churchill. New trainer Mike Maker drops her in class and has her take Lasix. HOT TUB HOTTIE worked fast and often until her first race, and trainer Allen Milligan had her young girls sitting on the best efforts in that meeting.

OUTASITE*** showed excellent speed and promise in its first three races last winter before taking a long break. It renders good sports works for high percentage connections. FIVE DREAMS is a regular sprinter entering a conditioned claim race for the first time, but he’s used to settling for minor rewards. ERNIE BANKER was probably the best in a troubled second place at Aqueduct, which took place on a wet surface.

KUPUNA *** finished with energy when he only beat a neck in a 7 furlong race at Churchill, and he had a strong breeze here on January 5th and is bred to improve on the distances of journey. BLUE NORTHER broke a little slow and ran wide in a helpful first sixth place at Louisville, and trainer Brad Cox is posting a high winning percentage with horses stretching for the first time. SKATE TO HEAVEN didn’t show much in its debut in Saratoga, but it has worked very well since arriving in Oaklawn.

8 The fifth season. $150,000 scholarship, 1 mile, 4+ years

THOMAS SHELBY ** has crossed the wire first in seven of his last 10 races, and he finished a solid second in the Tinsel last month, despite a rider who did everything to beat him in the lead. CONCERT TOUR is probably the favorite after winning its first three races last season, including the GII Rebel at Oaklawn. But he hasn’t raced since a poor performance in the Preakness, and his third-place finish at the 2021 Arkansas Derby doesn’t look quite as good at this point. SILVER PROSPECTOR is a multi-level winner who should benefit from a fast early pace.

MO CHOCTAW*** blasted out of the gate and never looked back in a nearly 12-length first win, and he recorded some subsequent ball work and may prove to be a pretty special sprinter bred by the state. IMA BLING CAT was compromised by wide travel when he was beaten 3 lengths into an open starting allowance, and he’s looming as a major stalking and pouncing threat in a restricted race. GAR HOLE beat his young daughter in a fast time on December 4, and he set up a favorable post for a sprinter with good speed.
