Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania – A long-awaited dream for many four-legged friends is soon to come true: a dog park in Mifflinburg.
The dog park is a long-awaited project. The initial momentum started in 2017 when Taylor and Luis Montesinos started a GoFundMe to crowdsource fencing and other start-up costs for the space.
“Our mission for Mifflinburg Dog Park is to establish a safe, hygienic and enclosed environment where well-behaved dogs can exercise and train off-leash,” reads the mission statement on the Mifflinburg Dog Park Facebook page. “The park creates a well-groomed space for dog owners, who are willing to abide by park rules. As a result, socialization opportunities are provided for dogs and their owners.”
As of today, the dog park is almost complete and the Montesinos have appealed to the public to help with the finishing.
“We are organizing a work party this Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. Over the years, many people have asked us how they can help support the dog park, and now is the time! We are asking for help on Saturday to complete the fencing pieces and complete the finishing touches before opening,” read the latest post on the dog park’s Facebook page.
Anyone wishing to attend on Saturday is advised to bring a shovel and a raincoat, in case of wet weather. After Saturday’s event, the park will still need borough approval before it can officially open.
The park will be located on Eighth Street near the Haney ball diamonds, just outside the outfield fence.
