Mars taps former Johnson & Johnson executive to lead new pet care division

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — On July 14, Mars Petcare appointed Nefertiti Greene as president of the company’s new division: Science & Diagnostics. Beginning July 18, Greene will lead the new division, expanding into companion animal diagnostics and science, while supporting its Waltham Petcare Science Institute.

The new Science & Diagnostics division will work across multiple areas of companion animal care, including data science, dog and cat microbiomes, health and disease biomarkers, and companion animal nutrition to develop products advanced healthcare and wellness. The new division builds on Mars Petcare’s companion animal biobank, which launched in June 2022.

“Nefertiti will play a critical role in the continued growth of our diagnostics business and accelerate the impact of our science, said Loic Moutault, President of Mars Petcare Global. “We are very proud of our diagnostics business, which plays a central role in the larger Mars Petcare ecosystem as an important means of achieving our goal. And we recognize that the transition from curative veterinary care to preventive veterinary care depends on our ability to accurately predict and diagnose diseases in pets.

Prior to Mars Petcare, Greene served as head of corporate strategy and chief of staff at business giant Johnson & Johnson. She has also served as U.S. President and Global President of Ethicon, Inc., President of Janssen Therapeutics, and Head of the U.S. Diabetes Division at Bayer. Greene began his career at Regeneron, focusing on scientific research, marketing and business operations.

Greene has nearly 30 years of experience in general management, business operations and clinical research in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries.

Along with a long career, Greene has served as an executive advisor for the Enterprise Veterans Leadership Council, a member of the North American Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and is currently a member of the Executive Leadership Council. She was also recognized by the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE) as P&L Leader of the Year.
