Gary A. Barnes, 56, of South Bend, Indiana, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 12, 1965 in La Porte, Indiana, to Dale L. and Joyce (Kebr) Barnes.
For many years Gary was a resident of the Share Foundation’s Sharing Meadows in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. Three years ago he retired to an ADEC home in South Bend.
In his youth, Gary competed in the Special Olympics. He was the hardest working person in his family. Gary has had many friends over the years, but recently his best friend was Tracy (Puppy) Rousculp.
Surviving Gary are his father, Dale L. Barnes; siblings, Bonnie (Donald) Stoner of Rolling Prairie, Darlene Barnes of Rolling Prairie and Edward (Cindy) Barnes of Mill Creek, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Joyce Barnes; sister, Connie Cummings; and great-nephew, Levi Stoner.
A Christian funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte, with Father Nate Edquist as officiant. Interment will follow at Foster Cemetery, La Porte. Visitations will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 10 and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday. A procession to the Church of the Sacred Heart will follow Saturday’s visit.
